Counseling & Follow-Up Training

We need 300-500 counselors during the crusade and you can help by leading a training in your church!

Resources for Leading a Training

What to Do at your training

You can easily do your own training at your church.

Download the resources above and follow this guide below. Send any paper Counselor Application Forms to Dr. Richard Blue at ELBA.

  1. Make sure to put all materials out before the start of the training for people to grab and reference during the training. (This includes the “Download” book, decision carbon copy paper, “My Commitment” brochures, and Counseling/Advisor/Follow-Up brochures.)

  2. Start the training with prayer. Open your training time by asking God for harvest workers. (Matt. 9:35-38)

  3. Show the Promo Video (This gives your trainees a sense of the energy and setting of the Counseling & Follow-Up moment.

  4. Show the Counselor Application QR Code. (Encourage to signup digitally if possible)

  5. (Not in PPT but on Counselor Application) Help trainees understand their testimony by asking themselves 4 questions: 1. What was my life before Christ? 2. How did I come to understand my need for forgiveness? 3. What actions did I take to trust in Jesus? 4. How is my life changed as a result? Share your testimony as an example. Direct them to share that testimony on their Counselor Application.

  6. Ask people to withhold questions until the end of the training. (The content from start to finish will take an hour.)

  7. Go through the PowerPoint and explain each point to your trainees.

  8. Provide a time for people to ask questions (There will be many!) Be sure to explain the process of requesting an advisor’s help. (Pray for the person and raise your hand while praying. An advisor will see your hand and come help.)

  9. Closing Remarks: 1. Thank people for being part of the “winning team” of winning souls to Christ! 2. Instruct trainees to signup for the Counseling and Follow-Up Team by visiting www.gotell-lp.com/teams. 3. Let them know of any future trainings they can invite their friends to attend (whether at your church or the March 9 training at First Denham). 4. Remind them that for every individual they counsel, they will also follow-up 5-6 times with them. The first reach-out should happen within 48 hours of their decision.

  10. End in prayer for the crusade.

If you have any more questions, email paul.keating@firstdenham.com.

You will need to “Vet” your counselors

We will review all the testimonies of individuals who complete the Counselor Application Form digitally (using the QR Code during the training). If some of your people request a paper form to fill out, read through their testimony and make sure it reflects a life changed by the grace of God. Trainees also need to know their testimony so this will be a positive process. (See Point 5 above about what a testimony entails.)

Advisors are held to a higher standard. They need to be competent individuals who are solid believers. They need to possess wisdom in how to deal with tricky circumstances. Advisors are typically pastors who deal with these questions all the time, but many qualified believers can perform this role. We also need women advisors, so consider who those people will be.

Send your completed and “vetted” Counselor Applications to Dr. Richard Blue at ELBA. (9126 Comar Dr, Walker, Louisiana 70785)

Not just anyone can be a counselor/Advisor

Where to Pick Up Resources

Some resources you will need to pick up in person. The “My Commitment” brochure, the carbon-copy decision card, and the “Download” book (for new believers).

You can pick these up at First Baptist Church of Denham Springs. Located at 27735 LA HWY 16, Denham Springs, LA 70726.

Please understand that we have limited quantities of training resources. Try to be conservative in your needs and realize that much of these resources are for the crusade. If you finish your training and have extra, please return it to First Denham before the crusade begins.
